How Do I Write an Extra Credit Movie Critique

« Back

Extra credit for daily grades can be earned by viewing selected movies. The movie critique must follow the format and can earn up to 15 points.

Due Dates: Six Weeks Test

The movies must come from the Extra Credit Movie List.

Paragraph One - Must contain the following:

  • Name of the movie
  • Director and producer
  • Top three stars
  • Year of release
  • When and where you watched the movie

Paragraph Two: The Plot

In no more than one paragraph, explain the plot of the movie. Do not give a myriad of details; condense the main story line into a good paragraph of 8-9 sentences.

Paragraph Three: The Characters

Describe in one good paragraph at least two characters, both personality and role in the movie. Apply at least one of your characters to what has been covered in class.

Paragraph Four: The Setting

Include the following information about the movie:

  • When and where did the movie take place
  • What time span is covered by the movie
  • Are the locations depicted realistically?
  • Were the houses, furnishings, tools, weapons, clothes and hairstyles shown with historical accuracy?
  • Give examples of period props that were done well or poorly.

Paragraph Five: Evaluation

Give an evaluation of the film. Point out strengths and weaknesses of the movie. Does the movie make the  viewer more aware of history or just confuse issues? Would you recommend this film to another student? Why?

Late assignments will not be accepted. If you are absent, you must find another way to earn enrichment points.
